9 Ways To Use Lemon Peel In Your Home

After squeezing the lemon juice, the lemon peel almost always ends up in the garbage can. Probably you didn’t know, but you can use the peel to disinfect your kitchen and cooking utensil, and clean and aromatize your home.

So, in addition to being very healthy and adding zest to your dishes, lemons can be of great help around your home. Here we show you 9 amazing uses of lemon peel.

How To Use Lemon Peel In Your Home

1. Natural Air Freshener

Put a few lemon peels in a bowl of water, and cook them on low heat for 15 minutes to half an hour. While boiling, the lemon peel will release a pleasant citrus smell and refresh your home. You can repeat this whenever you want to aromatize your home and improve your mood. Also, you can add spices to your taste, like cinnamon stick or clover, or a few drops of your favorite essential oil.

2. Cutting Board Cleaner

Cutting boards are often a good substrate for bacterial reproduction. Pour 1 tablespoon of table salt on the cutting board, and squeeze the juice of one lemon all over it. Scrub the cutting board with the lemon peel. In this way, you’ll get a clean and lemon-scented board! You can also use this cleaning method to clean other wooden surfaces.

3. Natural Disinfecting Agent

Fill a mason jar with lemon peels and top them with apple cider vinegar. You can also add a few drops of antibacterial essential oil, such as lavender or tea tree oil. Close the jar airtight and leave the mixture in a cool and dry area overnight, to marinate.

You can use this natural disinfecting agent to clean laminate, stone, ceramics, and porcelain surfaces.

4. Microwave Cleaner

Instead of using microwave cleaning products, you can use lemons. Squeeze the lemon juice of 1 lemon, mix it with an equal amount of water, and microwave it for 10 minutes on high temperature. Then, grate the lemon peel and scrub the microwave oven cavity. Clean with paper towel.

5. Refresh Wooden Utensils

Rub the wooden utensils with lemon peel and leave them like that (don’t rinse them with water). This will eliminate the bad bacteria and help remove the unpleasant odor.

6. Refreshed Humidifier

You can always refresh the damp environment of your humidifier with lemon peel. Grate the peel and mix it with the water, along with a few drops of lemon juice. Change the water every week.

7. Clean Garbage Disposal

Lemon peels are a great way for you to clean and freshen your garbage disposal. Flush hot water in the garbage disposal, and then place the peels. You can do this with any citrus fruit, not just lemon. Or, you can mix lime, lemon, orange, and grapefruit. Won’t that smell amazing?

8. Lemon Peel Furniture Polish

Squeeze the juice of one lemon and grate its peel. Add 2 parts of extra virgin olive oil and mix to combine. Use the mixture to polish your furniture with a soft cotton cloth. Leave it to dry.

9. Summer Lemon Soap

For the preparation of this natural soap, you’ll need 50g of beeswax, 25 drops of lemon essential oil, and 1 cup of grated lemon peel. If you like, you can also add a little bit of lime peel.

Melt the beeswax on low heat, and then add the lemon essential oil and lemon zest. When the consistency of the mixture is like a thick sauce, remove it from the heat. Pour the mixture into a soap mold, and allow it to dry. It’s preferable to leave the mixture for 24 hours, and then cut it into soap bars. Et voilà! Your homemade summer lemon soap is ready for use!
