The springtime is considered as one of the favorite seasons. We can all agree it’s pretty magical, beautiful weather, blooming flowers and trees, and greener grass. However, with this amazing season come some of our worst enemies- the mosquitoes. Admit it, how many times have you been unable to sleep due to unbearable mosquito bites?
They are pretty annoying, and so are the flies, wasps, and other insects. Usually, when we want to protect ourselves from these bloodsuckers, we use insect repellents. Yes, these products are effective; however, we shouldn’t use them every day. They contain many chemicals such as N-diethyl-3-methyl-benzamide, 1-methyl propyl, N-diethyl-meta-toluamide, and 2-hydroxyethyl. That is why if you repeatedly use these products they can be harmful.
So, every once in a while you can try using natural repellents. For starters, you can choose cloves as an ecological and natural insect repellent. We will explain how you can use it.
Cloves And Lemons As Natural Bug Repellant
Clove is also known by the Latin name Syzygium aromaticum. In Latin, it is also called clavus, which means nail. The carnation is between 12 and 16 mm long, and the flower bud is located on the carnation tree.
This spice has a very aromatic, warm, and pungent smell which is why many insects hate it. Flies and mosquitoes are no exception. If you combine lemons and cloves, you can get an effective bug protector.
Here’s what you should do.
This is very simple and cheap, and all you need is one lemon and a couple of cloves.
First, cut the lemon in half. Then take a few cloves and stick them into each lemon half. You can use as many cloves as you like. Next, put the lemon pieces next to your bed on your nightstand. This way you will successfully repel mosquitoes at night. Moreover, you can use lemons during the day as well. Simply place them near the area you spend time the most. The clove-lemons will freshen up your room as well.
If you don’t have lemons, you can use limes as an alternative.
You can also make an anti-bug spray. You will need 500 ml of rubbing alcohol, 100 grams of cloves, and 100 ml of lemon essential oil. Put the cloves in the alcohol, cover them, and let them sit overnight. In the morning stir the liquid and cover it again. After 3 days, remove the cover and add the lemon oil. Transfer the liquid into a spray bottle and use it whenever you are outside. Remember to shake the bottle before use.
