Homemade Mayonnaise Made With Ingredients That Are Actually Good For Your Body

Mayonnaise is one of those foods that we buy mainly as a finished product because we consider it too complicated to make it ourselves. Although one of the favorite spread for sandwiches, you rarely try making mayonnaise by yourself. Once you try and see how easy it is to make healthy mayo spread there is no turning back.

The mayonnaise you buy in stores contains usually vegetable oil like canola or soy. These oils are full of polyunsaturated fats that are very harmful to our bodies. And don’t forget the additives and artificial flavors, emulators, acidity regulators all these chemicals are in the mayo jars but this doesn’t bother us so we continue to consume it.

We had enough of the misleading labeling and harmful ingredients! That’s why we start making the homemade mayonnaise that we found on this amazing blog with more healthy ingredients that are actually good for our body.

Homemade Coconut Oil Mayonnaise

You will need the following ingredients:

  • 2 egg yolks (pastured)
  • 1 egg (pastured)
  • Half a teaspoon sea or Himalayan salt
  • Freshly squeezed juice from half a lemon
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 120 ml olive oil
  • 8 tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil
  • A pinch of pepper

Procedure:

In a food processor add the whole egg, then the egg yolks, lemon juice, mustard, pepper, and salt. Next, turn your food processor and pulse until all ingredients combine nicely. Next, take a small pan and add the coconut oil to it. Place the pan on the stove and dissolve the coconut oil over low temperature. Just make sure you don’t heat the coconut oil too much because it will cook the eggs, remember it should become soft and liquidy.

Afterwards, add the melted coconut oil and olive oil slowly and steadily in the mixture while your food processor is running. Blend the ingredients together, so the oils form an emulsion.

To preserve your homemade mayo for a longer period of time you can add one tablespoon of whey and 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt. The yogurt will give the mayo a nice and fresh taste while the whey will help preserve it longer. Later, transfer the homemade mayo into glass containers and store it in the fridge.
