Aren’t you bothered by all that noise that flies are making? Plus, they are contaminating the food we eat and can cause a lot of problems. Even though houseflies do not bite people, they can spread a lot of pathogens and diseases while laying eggs on furniture surfaces and food.
If you want to get rid of flies, here we show you a few easy-to-do techniques and methods. You can make these traps and repellents by yourself, using some simple food ingredients, such as cayenne pepper and mint.
How To Get Rid Of Flies Naturally
Some of the most effective fly repellants are those made of home-available, mostly natural ingredients.
You can make one by mixing 1 inch of dish soap with 1 inch of water, in a jar. The flies will be attracted by the soap, and will drown in the water. For better results, you can use a fruit scented soap. Like lemon or apple soap, which will help you achieve your purpose much faster. Moreover, adding apple cider vinegar also attract these annoying little insects.
Cayenne Natural Repellent
Add 2 teaspoons of cayenne pepper in a spray bottle filled with water. Shake to combine. You can use this repellent mixture to spray the rooms of your home, windows and doors, and other places where it’s most likely for the flies to gather.
Plant herbs like basil, lavender or mint to get rid of these annoying insects. You can put them in your kitchen, on the windows and balcony, and in the garden.
False Spider Web
Fill a plastic bag with water and hang it in a place exposed to light. It’ll reflect the sunlight, making a spider-like web, which will keep the flies at bay. You can seal the bag and put it near the windows and doors, and on the balcony.
Apple Cider Vinegar Trap
Making a simple apple cider vinegar trap can help you in the process, because flies cannot resist the smell of the fermentation. To prepare this trap, you’ll need a few drops of dish soap and half a cup of apple cider vinegar. Heat up the apple cider vinegar and then transfer it in a jar. Then, add the dishwashing soap. Take a piece of paper, make a funnel and place it on top of the jar. This way, when the flies enter the jar, they won’t know how to get out, and they’ll drown in the ACV.
Since flies love fruit, it’s convenient to make a fruit trap, using a toothpick, glass jar, plastic wrap, soapy water, and a few pieces of ripe fruit. Place the fruit at the bottom of the jar, add the soapy water, and then cover the jar with the plastic wrap. With the help of the toothpick, make holes in the wrap. Make as many traps as you need, and put them in different rooms and places in your house.
Once the flies are in the jar, they won’t know how to get out of it, so they’ll drown. Change the traps regularly.
Merry Traps For Flies
Isn’t it funny when you see a drunk fly? Did you know that you can use wine as a natural fly trap? Yep, they’re attracted by the nice fruity smell of the wine, as well as the fermentation.
Fill a jar with a little bit of wine and set it as a trap. As soon as the flies come near it, they’ll drown in the wine.
Fly Paper Strips
Have you ever used fly paper strips? It’s those ugly looking, but very effective stripes that help you catch flies. Instead of using store-bought fly strips, which can contain poisonous substances dangerous for the human health, make ones by yourself.
You’ll need half a cup of corn syrup, sugar, scissors, paper and thread. Cut the strips 2 inches wide, and make holes all over them. In a bowl, mix the sugar and corn syrup. Then, cover the stripes with the sugary mixture, and hang them in places where the flies gather the most.
